What will I do when I edit your document?

Copyediting is so much more than checking for typos! I’ll carefully read and edit your text to make your writing clear, consistent, and free of grammatical mistakes—without altering your intended meaning. If you’d also like help with your document’s overall style, tone, and organization, just let me know. I’m here for you.

When I edit your document, I can make improvements in the following areas:

  • Grammar

  • Word usage

  • Capitalization

  • Punctuation

  • Spelling

  • Consistency

  • Clarity

  • Brevity

  • Style

  • Organization

  • Formatting

  • Adherence to citation style guide, if applicable

What won't I do when I edit your document?

As your editor, my purpose is to improve the quality of your text without changing the meanings and nuances of your writing. Even though I'm making edits, the voice of your text will remain your own (unless you specifically ask me to change the tone or style).

You are the subject-matter expert on the content of your document. It's my job to notice inconsistencies and either correct them or bring them to your attention. But it's your job to do good research, check your facts, and make sure your conclusions are valid.

After all, you're the writer. I'm the editor who works behind the scenes to transform your draft into your writing at its best.
